Join us for an opportunity to learn from public safety (police, fire and medical) personnel what parents need to know that can help both their child with special needs and emergency responders in an emergency situation.  This is an important evening to gain an understanding of the importance of open communication for your child's sake.  

While the intended audience is parents of children with any type of special need, the information shared is important for all parents.

Preparing for Transition to Adulthood

The staff of Southeast Advocate Associates will combine their specialties in the presentation for this evening’s program.  Whether your child has special needs or not, preparing your child for independence and the transition from childhood to adulthood with all its responsibilities is sometimes scary for parents.  Together, Cheryl Follett, Mary Elisabeth Hannah, and Warna Reynders will try to ease some of your fears and concerns by sharing information regarding transition planning in the school, what legal concerns to address and preparation for financial responsibilities.

Join us for an opportunity to ask both general and specific questions in the education, legal considerations and daily money management fields.  The SEA staff are not lawyers.  Their opinions are not legal advice.  The wisdom and experienced based knowledge represented on the panel is invaluable.

Behavior

The topic of our second in a series of four programs is Behavior in the School Setting (and other places)Introducing parents to the language they may hear regarding behavior in team meetings, exposure to what graphing of data may look like, some pitfalls with academic/ skill acquisition data collection and what to look for/ ask for in FBA’s or assessments from a BCBA. 

 The presenter for the program is Mary Elisabeth Hannah of Southeast Advocate Associates.  MS. Hannah is a MA Licensed Special Education Teacher, MA Licensed and Board-Certified Behavior Analyst, who specializes in children on the Autism Spectrum.  Mary Elisabeth has worked in the field of Special Education for the last 15 years in both private nonprofit and public schools in the capacity of SPED Teacher, Curriculum Specialist, SPED Administrator and Behavior Analyst.
